Then
led they Jesus from Caiaphas unto the hall of judgment: and it was
early; and they themselves went not into the judgment hall, lest they
should be defiled; but that they might eat the passover. Note: John is the best fit here: Duccio's image
suggests that the Pharisees are outside the building, in observance of the
strict Jewish law pertaining to the Passover. This is not
mentioned in the synoptics, which set these events on the day after the
Passover. |
